About Janelle

Hi, I'm Janelle. My passion is helping people get better learning results from their online courses. Unlike other online course experts, my background is in Instructional Design, which means I study how adults learn and make courses based on those principles.

In 2009, I graduated with a Masters Degree in Instructional Technology from Georgia State University. For the past 8 years, I've worked as a Learning Designer, helping entrepreneurs, mid-size businesses and colleges create hundreds of online courses.

In addition to running Zen Courses, I also host The Zen Courses Show where I interview successful course creators. My mission is to help you create your course with less overwhelm.

Frequently Asked Questions


1. When does the program start and finish?

The first run of the program starts the week of September 17 and runs for three months (approx. 8 weeks of content, plus 4 work weeks).  

2. When will the live sessions be held?  

They'll be on Tuesdays or Wednesdays in the evening (I'll poll the group to see which day & time works best before finalizing). 

3. What if I can't make the live sessions?  

Great question. The live sessions will be held bi-weekly. They will be recorded, so if you can't make a session you can replay it at your convenience. 

4. I have an existing course that I want to improve. Will the program be too basic for me?

Nope! This program is for course creators in what I call the "growth" stage: you have a course idea and an audience (or network) to sell to but you need help finishing your course. "Finishing" can mean you're creating your first course or that you need help taking your existing course to the next level.

5. Do I need a mailing (email) list to join this program?

No, but it's preferable. You'll learn key email marketing strategies that work best with an active list of at least 200 people. If you don't have an email list, you'll need an existing client base or network you are actively engaged with and can market to. If you aren't there right now, your #1 focus should be listbuilding. 

6. Does this program cover Instructional Design?

Yes. I’ll show you how to apply Backwards Design to create a course that gets results. You'll also learn advanced strategies like how to increase engagement in your course, choose the right activities, and how to make your content more actionable.

7. If I change my mind can I get a refund?

You can request a refund up to 5 business days prior to the program start date (September 17). Since you'll get access to the content up-front and there are limited seats, there's no refunds after that date.
