Unlike other programs, FYDC will teach you how to validate and create a course that's focused on meaningful transformation--not just marketing fluff.  

You'll also learn how to apply marketing principles to plan and pre-sell your course.  

All of this is wrapped in a hybrid format that includes self-paced curriculum & live sessions with me.

Course Outline

Mission 1 - Define Your Learner

We kick off the course with research to pre-validate your idea (or pivot). 

During this Mission, you will research your learners’ needs, survey your audience, clarify your target learner, and create a learner profile

Mission 2 - Validate Your Assumptions

Next, you'll finish pre-validating by interviewing your audience. 

During this Mission, you will interview potential customers in your audience, identify your target learner, determine their true needs, and revise your learner profile

Mission 3 - Outline Your Course

During this Mission, you will define your course goal, apply Backwards Design to outline your content, map your Learner Journey, and create your course outline

Mission 4 - Plan Your Pre-Sale

This Mission is all about planning your pre-sale. During this Mission, you will finalize your offer, create your launch timeline, write your email sequences, and create your launch content

Mission 5 - Launch Your Pre-Sale

In this Mission, you will create your landing page, test your shopping cart and launch your pre-sale! 

This Mission is intentionally light to give you time to catch up.

Mission 6 - Create Your Course Materials

In this Mission, you'll create the content for your pilot, whether it's a 2-day workshop or a full-length course. Then you'll kick things off with your new students!

How I've used this process for myself...and clients

Hi I'm Janelle Allen. This is the story of how I used the exact process taught in Finish Your Damn Course! to get unstuck and launch courses faster and leaner.

When I started Zen Courses in 2016 I had no idea what I was in for. See, as an Instructional Designer, I was used to creating courses for colleges and corporations.

But creating courses to sell? Not so much.

First, I tried to build my own self-paced courses. I sold a decent number, but there was no way to tell if students were getting results. Plus, if I'm honest, I wasn't a natural marketer. I never felt like I truly understood how all the pieces fit together: Instructional Design, marketing, launching...*sigh*

Eventually, I shut down my self-paced courses and focused on working with clients who already had their marketing dialed in.

After about a year, something clicked. For one, I got better at marketing. Secondly, I began to develop my own process for creating online courses for entrepreneurs. 

So what next?

I knew I didn't want to create any new self-paced courses (I loved interacting w/ students). Around the same time, I started getting inquiries from people about a group program. Thus, Finish Your Damn Course! was born.

The process you'll learn in FYDC is the exact process I use to launch a new course. It not only draws on my experience launching profitable courses for myself, but also creating courses with my clients using Instructional Design principles.

FAQs

When does the program start and finish?

The first run of the program starts the week of March 4 and runs for 12 weeks (approx. 8 weeks of content, plus 4 independent work weeks). 

How long will I have access?  

You’ll get lifetime access to all of the course material including all lessons and templates, as well as lifetime access to the private community. 

When will the live sessions be held? 

On Tuesdays or Wednesdays. (I'll poll the group to see which day/time works best before finalizing).  

What if I can't make the live sessions?

The live sessions will be held bi-weekly. They will also be recorded, so if you can't make a session you can replay it at your convenience.  

I have an existing course that I want to improve. Will the program be too basic for me?

Nope! This program is for course creators in what I call the "growth" stage: you have a course idea and an audience (or network) to sell to but you need help finishing your course. "Finishing" can mean launching your first course or applying the structure to take your existing course to the next level.  

Do I need an email list to join this program?

No, but it's preferable. You'll learn key validation and launch strategies that work best with an active list of at least 150 people. If you don't have an email list, you'll need an existing client base or network you are actively engaged with and can market to. If you aren't there right now, your #1 focus should be listbuilding.  

Does this program cover Instructional Design??

Yes. I’ll show you how to apply Backwards Design to create a course that gets results. You'll also learn advanced strategies like how to increase engagement in your course, choose the right activities, and how to make your content more actionable.  

Will you show me how to build my course in Teachable/Thinkific/Podia etc?

No, we don't cover tech setup in this program. Most platforms have very helpful tech support to get you going.

If I change my mind can I get a refund?

Sure. You have 14 days from from your purchase date to request a refund. Since you'll get access to the content up-front and there are limited seats, there's no refunds after that time period.
